The final stop on our Japan adventure was Kyoto. We left our itinerary somewhat open here, as we figured a set schedule this late in the trip might be too much for everyone. We wanted to keep some flexibility at the end of our trip.
That being said, we did book one thing in Kyoto and it was something we were all super excited about. We booked a Hidden Kyoto e-Bike Tour that would take us to some off-the-beaten-path parts of the city. Both the e-bikes and the idea of getting away from touristy areas were exciting for us and we were really looking forward to this activity.
We also planned to go to Arashiyama one day, visiting the Bamboo Grove and the Monkey Park. The rest of our time in Kyoto was left open for shopping and exploring. On our last day, we all split up and did our own thing for a few hours. The boys were thrilled to be off on their own. It was really empowering to them to be able to choose their own activities and navigate the city on their own.
I thought Kyoto was a perfect mix of a planned activity, loose plans, and no plans. A trip of this length tires you out and the activity level naturally dies down near the end. Kyoto was the perfect place for this.
