Cancun Trip Planning

Well, this will be a short post! The goal of this spring break trip was easy. And it doesn’t get much easier than an all-inclusive resort.

The main question was what area to stay in – Cancun (inside the hotel zone or not), Playa del Carmen, Tulum. There were a lot of great options outside of Cancun but because we were trying to keep it easy and because it was a relatively short trip (Monday through Friday), we ultimately decided to stay in the Cancun hotel zone. It is super close to the airport and there are so many resort options to choose from. Some people had expressed reservations to us about staying in the hotel zone during spring break, but this was not college spring break and we were looking at a family-friendly hotels so we weren’t overly concerned about it.

Once we decided on the hotel zone, we researched family-friendly all-inclusive resorts and found one that we liked at our price point (Hilton Cancun Mar Caribe). Once that was settled, we didn’t have much else to do. We literally didn’t have to leave the resort for anything once we got there.

But… I have a little too much wanderlust to go to a new country and not set foot outside the resort. There is a whole world out there to see! So I convinced my husband to do one activity while we were there. We had already been to Mayan ruins in Belize and Guatemala and I didn’t want to do any mass-tourism types of adventure activities (like Xcaret). Cenotes seemed like something different and unique to this part of Mexico so we settled on that.

I hoped to book a private tour ahead of time but nothing fell into place. We decided to just book at the hotel when we got there and that worked out fine.

So that was it! We chose the hotel and the one activity we planned to do and headed to Cancun. It was very different from all of our other trips that I planned for months in advance, but that was the point. Nice and easy!
